Since day one of actor training I have heard, “Just be in the moment, you must be in the moment.”
Then I was deep into personal growth, and again I heard, “Be in the moment, be here now, just be.”
Early on in both those scenarios, it sounded so good. And, yea, I would have glimmers of what I thought it was to be in the moment.
But, at the risk of being yet another dude postulating about HOW TO BE IN THE MOMENT…
I really have broken the simple code to make being in the moment truly accessible to you via Committed Impulse.
Check it…
I know at one point or another you’ve had the experience of everything just unfolding perfectly.
Right?
If you’re an actor that can look something like doing a scene – and it just unfolded perfectly – there was a sense that you could do no wrong. You were playing, listening, and “connected.”
If you’re a coach, entrepreneur, or doctor (more and more people from the medical community are showing up in CI – very cool) you’ve had the experience of working with a client or while public speaking, and you were really THERE with them. You didn’t have to look into your mental catalog to give the right answer. You just spoke. Your genius was on tap!
Maybe you called it being in the zone.
But here’s what was happening. See if this is true for you.
You were breathing fully.
You really saw the person or people in front of you.
Felt an effortless connection to your body.
Take a look and see if those elements were effortlessly occurring.
These are the essential elements to presence – but more importantly staying connected to your body, your breath, and your immediate environment opens the creative channel within you.
It’s that simple. Yes – the more you immerse yourself in the practice – the more it becomes integrated into how you always operate.
The more you train – the more your creative channel trusts staying open.
The result: you have access to your brilliance! EFFORTLESSLY.
I feel like I have the best jobs in the world, acting regularly, and teaching CI.
Acting is the ultimate spiritual practice for me – and sharing all that I’ve learned is the greatest joy.
So, my friend, breathe deep, look around and see what is in front of you – as if you were seeing it for the first time ( because you have never seen what is there in THIS MOMENT), connect to the ‘loudest’ sensation in your body – and bring yourself BACK when your mind pulls you into a drama.
Rinse and repeat.
That’s how you access your magic. No, not by thinking – but by opening the creative channel. That’s how you meet your effortless genius.
We all must train to make this a habit.
Why?
Because we all have a mind that wants to dominate our attention – and pull us out of the moment. And hanging out in the mind, as you know, closes the creative channel.
But now – YOU’RE BACK.
Go create!
