I notice as I am preparing for my roles in two upcoming movies that there is a part of me that wants to avoid fluctuation.
There is a part of me that wants to create security for the future. For example, when I’m on set and Todd Phillips, the director, calls action, and I am facing Joaquin Phoenix. There is a part of me that wants to set what I will be experiencing.
And even though my life has been about committing and exploring to creating in the present moment – I recognize that there is a part of me that wants to create something safe that I can hide behind. Something that is free of the fluctuations of each moment.
Ten or fifteen years ago we could get by with a locked-down, well planned, performance or presentation. One that made our mind feel safe because we knew how to somewhat prevent fluctuation. We could power through on drive and stamina, and suppression. Mostly suppression.
In this era, we all must create from exactly where we are – not lock in something that feels safe. No one wants to watch or listen to someone playing it safe. It’s actually dishonest – and a denial of all the magic/truth that is available in every single moment.
What to remember.
Everything we need to create – we already have.
Our job as actors, and people that communicate with others, is to work from our heart, our soul, our body. And take the big leap to trust that if we ride the truth – and not hide it – then we are doing our best work. ALWAYS.
It’s time to embrace fluctuation!
Have fun, breathe deep, see what is in front of you, feel the sensation in your body, and bring yourself BACK when your mind pulls you into drama.
Peace
