Committed Impulse FAQs
What class should I take first?
We recommend you start with the 7 week Committed Impulse Master Class or one of the weekend workshops. These courses are a great introduction and deep dive into our approach. They will increase your physical vocabulary, creative range, spontaneity, and the ability to remain present in each moment – with consistency. These life-changing courses have accelerated actors’ careers, given public speakers the confidence to boldly present their ideas, and given everyone the tools necessary to create and speak from their truth.
I’ve done a lot of acting classes, how is this different?
Committed impulse is a physically based, fully comprehensive approach to acting. CI will train you to convert your intellectual interpretation of a scene into spontaneous organic behavior. Unique to Committed Impulse are the Inner Atomics which are tools designed to generate behavior by altering the energy in the body and stimulating the imagination. The Inner Atomics are key in terms of making choices and giving scenes a trajectory that will lead to spontaneity and aliveness. When used, these tools become incredibly compelling to audiences (including casting directors) because they witness acting that is actually unfolding in the present moment.
Bottom line: Old school approaches to acting don’t lead to steady employment. Why? Because audiences today want spontaneity, aliveness, and to witness art that unfolds in the present moment.
Do I need to be an actor to do CI?
Not at all! Classes often have around 25% non- actors. In any given class you may see entrepreneurs, doctors, musicians, coaches, prison social workers, writers, painters, lawyers, and rodeo clowns.
How do I know if Committed Impulse is right for me?
If you're having the impulse :-), chances are good that taking a CI course would be valuable for you. But it's completely natural to be a little nervous about investing in yourself in such a new and different way.
Past participants have included actors (movie stars and those just starting out), entrepreneurs, speakers, artists, musicians, creatives, writers, and anyone who has to put their ass on the line, whether at an interview, presentation, talk, audition, or even a hot date.
Many of our CI alumni have shared their stories - both their skepticisms before and their breakthroughs after - so we encourage you to check them out here: CI Success Stories.
How will this help me as an entrepreneur?
Well, we’re so glad you asked… CI was initially developed as a cutting edge approach solely for actors who want a way of working that generates steady employment.
More recently CI has also become the “secret weapon” for leading entrepreneurs, speakers and other creative professionals around the world.
We often have 25% non-actors in class. It’s an awesome mix. A melting pot of like-minded creators committed to accessing their excellence.
Committed Impulse frees you from limitations generated by a judging mind and a nervous or blocked body. It is designed to empower you to share your vision with the world, make a great living, and to make the planet a better place.
I’m new to acting is this a good place to start?
Absolutely! This is the ideal place to start. Many actors who have started with other techniques have found that their impulses, and sense of play, get replaced with “doing it right.” As a result they find themselves in their heads, feeling little joy, and a lack of aliveness in their work. They often report that they wished they had started with CI training. Although there are no guarantees, the majority of actors who consistently train in CI increase how much work they get.
Where are classes held?
Classes and workshops are currently held in Los Angeles and New York City. We send out specific locations once you’ve registered for the course.
We don’t have plans to hold classes outside of LA and NYC as of now, but if you want to see a class come to your state or city or country, drop us a line at info@committedimpulse.com. It’s good to know as CI continues to grow!
I don't live near Los Angeles or New York. Do you have any classes in my area?
We often have students fly in from other states and even other countries to attend Committed Impulse courses, so don't let geography stop you! However, if the dates, times, or locations of our live classes won't work for you and you'd like to get involved with CI right away, we created the Committed Impulse Online Program just for that situation. The Online Program can be done from anywhere with an internet connection 24/7/365, and it's a great way to stay fresh on CI training between live classes as well.
If I sign up for a course and something changes in my schedule, what is your refund policy?
Our classes sell out weeks, sometimes months, in advance. We always suggest that you sign up sooner than later to ensure you get a spot. If you book a job or have a scheduling conflict up to ten days before the start of the course you will receive a full refund. For cancellations less than 10 days prior to the start of the course please refer to the refund policy below.
REFUND POLICY: Please understand there is a high demand for Committed Impulse courses, and we limit class size. Once you have enrolled, your spot in class is secure. You may cancel your enrollment up to 10 days before the start of the course and receive a full refund. If you cancel less than 10 days prior to the commencement of the course, you will NOT receive a refund, but you will get a full credit that you can apply toward another class, workshop, private coaching, or the online program within the next 12 months. If, however, you cancel the class within 6 days of the start of the class – there is no refund or credit whatsoever.
What if I have to miss a class, or part of a weekend course?
We STRONGLY suggest that you set your schedule up so that you do not miss a precious moment of this course. If for any reason you cannot attend the entire course, there is no refund for missed hours or classes.
I am not physically fit, can I do Committed Impulse?
Yes, definitely. The physical training in CI isn’t about exercise or being fit, sure feeling great and looking younger may be bi-products of this physical training but that’s not the goal. The goal is to live in the genius of your body — not to live in a self-defeating, second-guessing mind. The creative channel is in your body — not between your ears.
I’m pregnant can I do CI?
We have had pregnant women take CI courses before. It’s important to note that the course has a strong physical component, and for that reason we ask that you discuss with your doctor any types of movements that you should not do. Note: we’ve heard that some women who have done CI were better equipped to stay present and focused during childbirth. No guarantees on this one.
So, as long as your doctor says it’s ok, and you’ll be responsible not to push yourself, yet stay engaged, you’re ready to rock.
Can CI really help me reach my full potential?
Look, every time we put our ass on the line, whether it be in an audition, public speaking, sending out a webinar, going on a date, or asking for a raise, we are often faced with body rushes of nervousness, fear, anxiety (or a combo of all three) followed by thoughts that tell us we suck, and that we’re not ready. It’s true for all of us – so don’t think you have it any worse than anyone else. Committed Impulse will teach you unique, life-changing tools so that no sensation in your body or set of thoughts will ever get in your way again.
Does Josh really use CI to book so many acting jobs?
