When I started out as an actor the only show that filmed in NYC was Law and Order.
And a few soap operas. And I was super pumped ( really) to be an extra on a soap. I walked through hospital corridors carrying ‘important papers,’ then turned around and walked back the other way passing behind the main actors. But I was in it. Or a corner of my arm was in it – on TV, baby! I even called people to let them know I’d be “on” at 3pm. My dad: “Uh, yea, I saw you, Joshua.”
Luckily I landed a role on Law and Order where I actually spoke – and went on to do 25 or so episodes.
But today the opportunities are vast. There is more production in NY and LA than ever before.
And have no doubt that the most valuable currency an actor has is creating from exactly where you are. Have no doubt, this applies to anyone who publicly speaks, teaches, coaches, sells, etc.
Guaranteed: our minds will come up with all kinds of reasons not to trust creating from our truth in the present moment. “How could that be enough?” the mind agonizes.
I recently completed acting in an A24 movie. Next week I fly back to NY to start another movie called Motherless Brooklyn, directed by Edward Norton. And, yes, my mind tempts me to plan out every moment. But after years of making all kinds of mistakes I know I must make some choices (using CI’s Inner Atomics), and then be open to creating in the moment (with my scene partner: Bruce Willis).
Maybe I’m bragging about my acting projects – but I tell you about them, because i have learned some amazing tools to creating, and I am friggin’ passionate about sharing everything I’ve learned along the way – with you!
So, take a leap and join me in one of the upcoming CI courses.
There is tremendous opportunity available for you, regardless of your profession. You owe it to yourself to train to create optimally.
I look forward to working with you!
