How Jealousy Impacts Your Career

You ever feel jealous when people around you are succeeding?

Your friends are booking jobs, and getting out there – tapping into their creative badassery. Getting ahead.

And you feel left behind.

You wish you were the one booking the job that they just booked.
You’d prefer they didn’t succeed so much – certainly not past where you are.

We’ve all had thoughts like these at one point or another.

But did you know that having these thoughts can have a major negative impact on YOUR career?

Did you know there is a way you can turn this all around?

Ya better watch today’s video on the gnarly subject of jealousy.

My good friend Bobby Cannavale, who is killing it right now in Medea at BAM, taught me something many years ago about jealousy that turned it all around for me.

Check out the video, and leave a gnarly comment below.

Big Hug,
Josh

Hi Josh! I hope all is well! I can’t believe your topic is ‘Jealousy’…as I was discussing this with a friend of mine and I BROKE DOWN THE WORD…’ Je(silent A) Lous’…whenever you feel jealous you are feeling like ”I LOSE”… I love words and meanings and this stuck out to me. I’ve had many in my life,l for no reason… Jealous of me…mother brother cousins friends( why because I sing and dance and laugh and am naturally happy…and I always SHARE!
I am grateful that I am not a jealous person. Never have been, no matter what the other person gets or has…(Have had the richest most famous friends/been to the biggest lushest mansions, and yet it always happens that someone is Je LOSE of me… for no reason other than the fact that I am still TRYING WILLING AND ABLE to get up and do stuff/take chances which is my go-to phrase TAKE A NEW CHANCE …CHANCE AND CHANGE…WITHOUT CHANCE THERE IS NO CHANGE.
    Love and Best always,
    Mira

This is very true. The lens through which you see others can intern become the lens you see yourself.

This is just lovely. I’m an aspiring folk singer, and I get so wildly jealous, I can’t even bear to listen to the albums of my favourite artists. So thank-you for this. Especially the last bit at the end, where you said that there are enough jobs for everyone, and there is enough money for everyone. A wave of comfort washed over me.

Julie, I so hear you. And I don’t have jealousy mastered. But I do know what I talked about in the video to be true. No need to make yourself wrong for being jealous. It can be an indication as an area that needs expansion, openness and generosity. Keep singing!

Thank you for sharing this about the challenges of when we see others have success when we find ourselves at different stages of where we are in our careers. Having openness is amazing and that it is an opportunity to be supportive and find the motivation to keep persistence.

Gosh this is so true! Thanks for sharing Josh – this shed some new light on the subject. I never understood why I love the feeling of “relishing” in someone else’s success, but maybe this helps explain it – and how, when I’m not, I could 🙂

Josh, Thanks for the perfect timing. I am a massage and energy worker. I was just checking out google to see where my business came up. One of my friend’s business came up before mine. A part of me was jealous because I want more clients and i “feel” she has enough. What part of being an energy worker do I not get? I’m back and I’m clearer. Again, Thanks!

We gotta have a sense of humor about all this stuff.

Appreciated how you explained how thoughts/feelings will circle back to my own nervous system, belief system if I hold that jealousy so close. Was already appreciating others success because I know it was a good thing to do for both them and me… and I do LOVE supporting my friends! Now I understand the energy function of this practice, thank you!! 😊
