Wanna play?

· · Leave a Comment

One element of CI involves releasing layers of contraction that withhold your purest of creative impulses.

This is what the life of an artist is about.

We’re onion peelers.

These days I am very curious about play. Playing.

What is the connection between play and creativity?

Do they go hand in hand as they go wandering into the woods?

As younger versions of ourselves, many of us played more than we do today. For some the reverse may be true. For me, I had to be more of a grown up when I was a kid than I do now.

Regardless – play is our right.

When we play, in whatever form that may be, we are free.

We’re not judging ourselves.

We’re fully expressing ourselves with no focus on the result.

We’re in the moment.

Alive, spontaneous.

And that tends to be when our most magically delicious (terrible Lucky Charms reference) creations emerge – often effortlessly.

I have no doubt that building the muscle of play is a key element in career success, well-being and having fun in life. Aren’t they all connected?

If you have insights on play, what you personally gain from it, and how you entice yourself into the realm of play – I’d love to know. Leave a comment if you’re feeling playful.

If you want to see my initial description of what I’m designing this summer take a look at The Art of Play –  it’s here.

Now do me a favor and go play for a while today in whatever form that may be.

P.S. My son-in-law, Bubba Weiler, has written a beautiful play. Well, I’ll Let You Go is currently playing at Studio Seaview in NYC. Bubba just received the Outer Critics Award for a new American play, as well as being nominated for a Drama Desk Award. Not to be missed.
